Keeping the kids entertained with fun games

When it comes to children’s parties it is a good idea to have some party games up your sleeves. There are many fun children’s party games out there that don’t have to eat into your budget!
There are two ways you can go. Firstly, hiring a professional children’s entertainer to run all your party games so that you are stress free and can enjoy the party as much as the little ones do. This option is best for parents who are willing to spend much more on their child’s party. Or secondly, plan the party games yourself and get the help of others at the party to assist you with some games. This option is best for parents who are not looking to spend too much and are on a budget.

Where do I start?

Well let’s go into a little more detail about our first option, “hiring an entertainer”. Choosing the right entertainer for you is a job itself. You want to ensure that your child and other children at the party are having fun and are with someone who is professional and entertaining. There are many children’s entertainers out there in Sydney, but how do you know who is the best? It all comes down to RESEARCH!! To get great service you need to make time to plan ahead to find the right entertainment for you. My suggestion would be to ask friends and family first if they recommend someone. Referrals are one of the best ways to find the best service out there as most of the time they have witnessed the entertainer at parties which can make your job much easier.

What if there aren’t any recommendations? Then google is the answer. Try calling around a few places and see what they have to offer. Make sure you ask the entertainer what kind of games they would do, would this be suitable for your age group, do you need to provide anything on the day, do they have a Working with children’s check and public liability insurance, do they include a dressed up character in their package and how long have they been an entertainer for? I know this might be a lot of questions but it is a good starting point to get more information about their services. Remember that the most expensive price isn’t always the best and the cheapest price might not get your money’s worth on the day. You should have a budget in mind and work within that. Try and find someone who is affordable for you and who told you enough information that makes you feel satisfied and confident with their services.

Let’s move onto some fun games that will keep the kids entertained at your next party!!

Pass the parcel

Pass the parcel

Pass the parcel:

This is an old favourite that the children love. If there are going to be 10 children at the party I suggest wrapping up 11 or 12 presents. You never know when a parent decides to bring with them an extra sibling who wants to participate in pass the parcel. If you are having a mixture of boys and girls attending the party try and purchase presents that are unisex (e.g. pencil cases, crayons, bubbles, hats etc.). Play some favourite kids tracks and away you go!

Musical chairs

Musical chairs

Musical chairs and statues:

Ask your child if they are old enough what some of their favourite songs are. It is great to involve your child in the party planning process. If your child has a favourite movie, try downloading songs from the movie that you can use for the party games. Depending on how much time you want to spend playing games it is best to play one or the other “musical chairs or musical statues”. If playing musical chairs you will need to make sure that there are enough chairs for each child.

Limbo

Limbo

Some parents may choose to prefer the easier option of musical statues as this just requires the children to freeze when the music stops. The great thing about this game is that it challenges children to listen very carefully and that the last winner usually claims a prize.

Limbo:

Is a great and easy addition to add to the party. Using a long stick or inflatable limbo the children and parents are required to go under the limbo without touching it until it goes really low onto the ground. This game is suitable for ages 2 + up.

Pin the jewel on the princess

Pin the tail on the donkey:

This is a classic game that children still love to play. The great thing about this activity is that now it comes in all sorts of different themes such as pin the crown on the princess, pin the nose on the clown etc. This makes the game very exciting by having different versions of the game for the children.

I hope these tips come in handy when planning for your next kids’ party. Always remember that if you are worried about running all these party games on your own there are some great entertaining companies in Sydney that will take the hassle away from you on the day!
